Social Living is Australia's first registered social enterprise dedicated to manufacturing bedding and sustainable furniture. Proudly based in Melbourne, Social Living was founded by Ben Armstrong nearly nine years ago. Frustrated with the recycling industry's limitations and the overwhelming waste generated by the 'fast furniture' revolution, Ben and his brother embarked on a mission to revolutionise furniture recycling.
What started as a humble operation in Ben's parents' backyard has grown into a thriving enterprise committed to reducing environmental impact and creating jobs for marginalised and at-risk communities. Social Living's ethos is deeply inspired by Ben's grandfather, Jim Armstrong, who left a lasting legacy of community service and innovation.
By moving the entire process onshore—from design to manufacturing and recycling—Social Living ensures that their products fit into a circular economy. This approach not only reduces waste but also supports local economies and provides employment opportunities for those in need.
